Betty Price has reportedly stabilized.Īpostle Frederick K.C. Price’s legacy includes a presence as a television evangelist, establishment of elementary and high schools, authorship of dozens of faith-based books, a hold of doctorates and other honorariums, and breaking ground in the emerging technology of social media.Ī few weeks ago, the Reverend and his wife contracted the coronavirus from which he expired, and both were hospitalized. Price was able to realize his goal of establishing a church in Manhattan, New York, and his flock eventually reached 28,000 by the time he turned over the pulpit to his son, Fred Jr., in 2008. He was able to erect the 10,000-plus seat FaithDome in 1989. In time his congregation grew to the point where they could not assemble under a single roof, and towards this purpose, Price acquired the former campus of Pepperdine University at Vermont and 79th Street, in 1981. His teachings struck a chord within the psyche of many Black Christians, and by 1973 he was able to found the Crenshaw Christian Center in Inglewood ( ). He later transitioned to other churches in the West Los Angeles area.īy 1970, Price was called to embrace the tenets of the charismatic movement, and its mantra of prosperity through faith. Price, the founder of the Crenshaw Christian Center, has died at the age of 89. By the late 1950s, he’d begun ministering at an African Methodist Episcopal church in the resort community of Val Verde, a popular haven for Black people in the segregated Santa Clarita Valley. The celebrated evangelist died at a Torrance hospital on Feb. And if you desire the gift of tongues, by all means, ask God for this gift and it is a tremendous gift that should be used in the Body of Christ. The Rev. The thing that I would encourage Christians to run after is being filled with the Spirit, by asking God to fill you and the fruit of the Spirit will come. Not all are called to speak in tongues in the body of Christ in my opinion. I don't think however, we should lead people to chase after speaking in tongues. I thought this was a great book in that it shows a hunger that Frederick Price had for the gift of speaking in tongues. It is said that tongues with interpretation is equivalent to prophecy. ![]() Also, it is a gift that can be used to encourage, comfort and edify the church if combined with the gift of interpretation of tongues. It allows you to pray for things in the Spirit, that you could not have prayed in your natural language."speaking mysteries to God". The gift of speaking in other tongues is a great gift and allows you to speak to God in another language that you do not know. Tongues is not the evidence of being filled with the Holy Spirit and if you can find me one scripture that says "speaking in tongues is the evidence of being filled with the Holy Spirit" I will give you $1000.00. Jesus said, "you shall know them by their fruits" (See Matthew 7:16). ![]() In fact, you should avoid those who have a form of godliness, but deny the power of God! The issue here is that the fruit of the Holy Spirit is the evidence of being filled with the Holy Spirit. So, it is not that I do not acknowledge the power of God. If you knew me, you would know that I speak in tongues, I have prophesied, I have interpreted tongues, I have operated in the gifts of healings, I have operated in the gift of discernment of spirits, I have casted out devils, etc. The worst part of this theology is that it divides Christians. Those who use this theology have read into the Bible something that is not there. ![]() If you have read any of my other reviews, you know that I do not agree with the dogmatic theology of "in order for you to be filled with the Holy Spirit, you require to speak in tongues". This book is basically the testimony of Frederick Price and how he received the baptism of the Holy Spirit with the evidence of speaking in tongues. "In order to do the works and "greater works" that Jesus did, we must have the same enabling power that He had." (Frederick Price, The Holy Spirit: The Missing Ingredient, ) ![]()
